ECL and Professor Antonios Trakatellis, MEP (Member of the European Parliament) had the pleasure of organizing a dinner discussion on "Melanoma: Prevention and Early Diagnosis" at one of the Members' restaurants at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, 3 June 2008, from 19:00 to 21:00.

More than 40 participants, including politicians, policy makers, public health experts, oncologists, and other health professionals attended this very successful event.

The aim of this evening was to establish some basic understanding about melanoma and explain to other members of Parliament the importance of this skin cancer in Europe.

After a brief introduction from professor Trakatellis and Mrs Cora Honing, ECL Board President, European dermatologists (Dr R Braun of Switzerland, Dr M Trakatelli of Greece, and Professor Bergman of The Netherlands) provided an overview of different aspects of melanoma, its prevention and diagnosis.

At the end of the presentations, an open discussion on the issues took place with the participants present.  The meeting was concluded with the hope that skin cancer will be highlighted as a EU health priority.
