ECL organised a seminar and exhibition on pictorial warnings on cigarette packages in Brussels in 2007.
The Power of Communications against Tobacco seminar and exhibition took place in Brussels from 31 January to 2 February 2007.
The seminar and exhibition brought together representatives of the European Commission, members of the European and working on anti-tobacco campaigns as well as of the pharmaceutical industry, with the aim of exchanging ideas, know-how and experience and looking forward to the future of communications against tobacco.
The European Commissioner for Health, Markos Kyprianou, gave the inaugural address for the photo exhibition (available here on the Europa site), stressing that "successful tobacco control depends on joint efforts. Parliament, Member States, the Commission, stakeholders and international bodies all need to play their part in contributing to the overall aim of a tobacco-free Europe."
The seminar sessions were moderated by our Advocacy Officer, Luk Joossens, and by Fiona Godfrey of the European Respiratory Society. Several speakers were present to explore the current status and future prospects in tobacco control, from the point of view of the role of communications in fighting the scourge of tobacco.
Note: This event was supported by Pfizer, GSK and Novartis.
