European Conference on Tobacco or Health

The European Conferences on Tobacco or Health (ECToH) are held every three years and unites over 600 influential advocates, researchers, academics, non-governmental organisations, civil society, scientists, healthcare professionals and public officials working on all aspects of tobacco control from around Europe.

The next 8th ECToH will be held in 2020 in Berlin and will be hosted by the German Cancer Society. REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

The 7th ECToH was held in Porto in 2017, hosted by the Portuguese League against Cancer.  It was opened by the President of the Portuguese League, the President of Portugal, the EU Commissioner for Health, Queen Leticia of Spain, among others. Dear Colleagues,

As you may already know, the 8th European Conference on Tobacco or Health (ECToH) will take place 19th to 22nd February, 2020 in Berlin, organised by the German Cancer Society, the German Cancer Aid, the German Smokefree Alliance and the Association of European Cancer Leagues.

We are pleased to announce that the call for abstract is now open until August 15th, 2019.

We kindly invite you to submit your abstracts for the following topics:

  • The tobacco pack: from pictorial warning to plain packaging
  • Social inequalities and smoking / tobacco related health disparities
  • Strategies to reach and support/educate lower socio-economic status (SES) groups
  • Interventions for smokers with multiple risk behaviors (e.g., other addictions, co-morbidity, mental health problems)
  • Novel tobacco treatment interventions
  • The role of health professionals in tobacco prevention and control
  • Health education and health communication (e.g., mass media campaigns, health communication interventions, youth education programs)
  • The economies of tobacco control: cost-effectiveness studies, economic benefits, earmarking of tax revenues.
  • Monitoring and surveillance of tobacco control progress
  • Implementation of evidence-based interventions in daily practice: barriers and facilitating factors
  • Successes or failures in the tobacco control advocacy
  • E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products – monitoring and surveillance, challenges in communication
